Youth Summit – Building Resilience and Connection

April 3, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

Step Up Anderson Township will host a youth summit on building resilience and connection with area Churches for grades 7-12.  This summit will be held from 2-4 on Sunday, April 3rd at the Anderson Hills United Methodist Church.

Rachel Memnzel of Parkside Church will provide a ministry service with teen relatable music and Erin Horn from 1N5, the premier suicide prevention organization, will be presenting “Sources of Strength”, an interactive program to teach teens ways they can handle life’s pressures.

Sources of Strength is an upstream, evidence-based suicide, bullying, violence, and substance abuse prevention program. Sources of Strength focuses on building up students’ protective factors to increase resiliency so that when they are met with the challenges life brings, they can rely on numerous Sources of Strength (family support, positive friends, mentors, healthy activities, generosity, spirituality, medical access, and mental health).

With so many suicides and now a drug overdose death, it is urgent that we as a community address the underlying causes and help the teens navigate the world they now live in, be it the social media aspect, the ever-evolving drug culture, the over-scheduling, and for some, underlying mental health issues especially anxiety and depression.

We hope this will be one of two yearly programs to help them.
